WSOP Coverage

Its very strange that I am so excited about the WSOP starting today, but I am. Here are the websites I will be going to every day, and I suggest you do the same:

Pokerati
Dan has really stepped up his game and seems to be the first with breaking poker news. They still have those retarded cartoons, but the addition of California Jen helps offset that negative.

Tao of Poker
Pauley will have the best behind the scenes info during the WSOP

Poker News
The only place to get hand-by-hand updates.

"I learned it from watching you, alright"

Ah, the memories of one of my favorite PSA's as a child. Guess the Partnership for a Drug-free America doesn't translate well into French.

Stereotypes are Great Timesavers

We, uh, kinda thought 50 meters was a guideline.

Jackasses.

Sporty?

The thing is, I still like bogging about poker, even if I’m no longer good at it.

Inanimate Carbon Rod, Part Two

Without a doubt, the Man of the Match award goes to.........

Congratulations, top right corner. A worthy performance. UNITED.

OK Soccer Fans...

For the most part, soccer bores me. I respect the skill, love the passion of the fans and will say that a Juventus/Lazio game I saw in Rome in the late 90's was one of the most memorable sporting events of my life (behind 2006 Rose Bowl. Hook em'). Here are some questions that I'll ask for casual soccer "fans".

1. Man U and Chelsea are playing for the Championship? Isn't this like the Red Sox and Yankees playing for the World Series? Shouldn't those teams be on opposite sides of the bracket?

2. I'm reading articles about how Chelsea might have more to play for since Man U just won the Premier League. How unstable is this? Two championships decided within a couple of weeks? Which is more prestigious? Does the Premier League qualify you for the Champions League? And if so, are they qualified for next years Premier League even though this years hasn't finished? Has next years started already? Is the Champions league the same as the UEFA Cup? And then there's the Euro 2008 which I understand is for countries, like the World Cup, but also isn't the Olympics this year. And players miss games for the league they are paid to play in to play for their country in other games? Isn't there just too much to keep track of?

3. Let me get this straight...the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Premier League have 2 games series, but the championship is only 1 game. Does this make sense? No. In theory, series are played to find the best team over time and lessen the chance for an inferior team to win. Why do that in the previous rounds, but not in the championship.

Normally I would be planning on watching today's event because I like drinking, especially on weekday afternoons, but I've been invited to play golf and I'd much rather do that. Go Pele!

Amazing Photo Journalism

I don't know how he did it, but AP photographer Charles Krupa managed to get a picture of Kevin Garnett showing intensity and beating his chest. Rumor has it that Krupa also has a picture of Shane drinking.

Super Bowl Wednesday

Just curious where you guys will be watching the UEFA Finals tomorrow. And will anyone be live-blogging it?

Very torn on who to root for, too, since usually I cheer against both Manchester Utd. and Chelsea. So most likely I will simply be hoping to see good soccer, lots of injuries, and a draw.

A humorous new (to me) sports blog. Funny, ish:

"The Show" is good

If you are a baseball fan and have HD, you need to check out "The Show" on MOJO. Filmed during the 2006 season, "The Show" follows 6 of the Diamondbacks top prospects, including current Ranger great Dustin Nippert, as they play in the minors and get called up. Filmed more like a documentary than reality show, it is really good tv. Put it on your TIVO now.

Gratuitous Hedgehog Link of the Day

Advantage: Ron

If I were stealing $15.5m, I'd keep a lower profile

A quick note to you, Richie Sexson, from the eleven remaining Ranger fans. There is simply no chance that Kason Gabbard would improve your obp by throwing at you. You're hitting .209. Your strike zone is only slightly smaller than your inflated salary. It's no surprise that you feel bad for stealing money from the Mariners, but charging the mound isn't exactly flying under the radar. Fortunately, you're Richie Sexson, so you swung and missed each time you tried to throw a punch.

You are bush, Richie Sexson, and you should know that if the Rangers haven't sold Padilla to the Yankees or Rockies before the next Mariners series, you're getting 95 in the ribs before you can get your helmet off to throw it. And I will be sitting close enough to tell you about it.

Going to need a miracle

Wanted to live blog the Stars game, but its really just going to be the 3rd period. Spent a little too much time at the bar. Hey, when Dogfish Head 60 minute draught is the special, what do you expect?

Stars down 4-1 going into the 3rd. Havent really seen the entire game, just a little here and there. But I'm focused now. Ballsy prediction: Stars 6 RW 4

9:33 - Huge power play 2 minutes in coming up for the Stars if they want to make this a game. I dont really think they can win, but they at least need to show they will not give up.

9:36 - Is there a goalie that loves the highly ambitious 84 foot pass more than Turco?

9:37 - PP down and we didnt show anything.

9:40 - Granted I have seen exactly 8 minutes of the red Wings this year, but I am suprirsed how physical they are. the Stars seem to be shying away from contact, while the RW seems to be seeking it out. This might come back to haunt the Stars as the series goes on.

9:43 - If you could be the 9th best player in the NHL, or the 9th best player on the NFC Wild Card team any given year, which one would you choose?

9:46 - Under 10 minutes to play and I dont think my prediction is going to come through. So, what do the Stars need to do these last few minutes? They need to not give up another goal, capitalize on at lease one of these scoring chancesl, get more physical with the RW, and not get anyone hurt. Time to start building some momentium heading into Game 2.

9:50 - Anyone else think its weird that the hockey uniform includes shorts instead of pants?

10:01 - Why is Chelios so tan?

10:03 - Game over. 4-1 Det. Stars really need to win game 2, or it might be Red Wings in 5.

Why Ron Washington is STILL employed

Because Ozzie Guillen continues to lower the bar. If he can keep his job after gems like:

''The Cubs haven't won in 120 years, and they're the [bleep]ing best,'' he said. ''[Bleep] everybody. We're horse[bleep], and we're going to be horse[bleep] the rest of our lives, no matter how many World Series we win. We are the bitch of Chicago. We're the Chicago bitch.''

Or the latest:

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/slezak/933482,CST-NWS-carol06.article

...then Ron Washington gets a three year extension.

My personal favorite quote from the article- "Apparently the sensitivity training classes Guillen attended after using a gay slur in 2006 did not include a segment on blow-up dolls."

I'm sure Ozzie went out of his way to use female blow up dolls, so the classes have had some effect.

GO RANGERS! 70 wins is more than just a slogan.

Smiling

Not a lot makes me really happy. This week I've been really happy twice. The first is a continued sense of happiness with the daily reports about Roger Clemens (Thanks Tagg). The second is this story. He's in jail by October...guaranteed.

How Sloppy are John Daly's Seconds?

Thank you Rocket for my morning sunshine.

A live boa constrictor? Even the Blue Jays may ask him not to wear their hat on the plaque. If Cooperstown is even still interested.
